Butter Coffee

As a Keto-newbie, butter coffee has been somewhat of an important staple. It gives me energy to get through the day (even while fasting), suppresses my appetite, and gives me a bit of a digestive cleanse. Up until now, I've been buying butter coffee from Picnik, but to-go coffees can get expensive (there are 6 in a pack so you can imagine how those costs might add up). Since I was going to be drinking coffee daily, I got a coffee maker and tested out recipes to find one that worked for me. I'm sharing because I started off by making it wrong and didn't notice as many benefits as when I use the recipe below!

 
 

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brewed coffee
  • 1 scoop Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (You can get it here)
  • 1-2 tbsp MCT Oil (You can get it here) or Perfect Keto MCT Powder (You can get it here)
  • 1/2 tbsp grass-fed butter
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 3 packets of Truvia (You can get it here)
 
 
 
 

Directions

Add all ingredients to a blender and mix for 1 minute. Depending on how I'm feeling, I'll add ice. 

Note: When I'm having an intermittent fast (e.g., not eating for a set period of time during the day), I use 2 tbsp of MCT Oil (402 calories; 39g F; 5.4 C; and 9.3g P). However, if I want butter coffee and am not planning on fasting, I use 1 tbsp (272 calories; 25.1g F; 5.4g C; 9.3g P). I calculated the macros using MyFitnessPal. 

If you prefer to take your MCT on the go, another option is Perfect Keto MCT Oil Powder. It has the same benefits but will definitely be less messy when traveling.
