Instructions
Prep the steaks: Pat the steaks dry with paper towels. Season the top, bottom, and edges with the ranch seasoning, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt as needed.
Preheat the skillet: Heat a cast iron or heavy skillet over medium heat until hot. Add the oil.
Sear the steaks: Add the steaks to the hot skillet and sear for about 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until both sides are browned.
Check for doneness: Use an instant-read thermometer to check the thickest part of the steak. Continue cooking as needed until it reaches your preferred doneness.
Rest: Transfer the steaks to a plate or cutting board and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Serve: Slice against the grain and top with garlic Parmesan herb butter, if desired.
Notes
Watch the salt: Ranch seasoning blends vary in sodium. Reduce or skip the added salt if your blend is already salty.
Get the skillet hot: A properly preheated pan helps the steak brown instead of steam.
Use a thermometer: Steak thickness affects cooking time, so check temperature instead of relying only on minutes per side.
Rest before slicing: Give the steak about 5 minutes to rest, then slice against the grain.
Change the seasoning: For a classic steak flavor instead of ranch, use your favorite steak seasoning.
Optional finish: Top with garlic Parmesan herb butter for extra richness.
