The Bonefish Grill is one of my favorite restaurants, mainly because I can’t get enough of their Bang Bang Shrimp. Unfortunately, this dish is one of those things I had to say goodbye to when I decided to cut sugar and carbs. But, this homemade Keto Bang Bang Sauce recipe tastes better than the original with simple substitutes. It’s perfect for people who would rather save their carbs for things like dessert!
What is Bang Bang Sauce?
Bang bang sauce is a sweet, spicy mayonnaise-based sauce. The Bonefish Grill uses it on their bang bang shrimp, which is my favorite thing on their menu. I loved it so much, that I made a low-carb version.
What is it Made of?
Bang bang sauce is one of the simplest recipes you can make. It has four ingredients:
- Mayonnaise
- Sweet Chili Sauce (click for my low-carb & keto-friendly recipe)
- Sriracha Sauce
- lime juice
That’s it. I recommend using full-fat mayo since low-fat varieties often contain added sugar to make up for the reduction in fat. Also, make sure the sweet chili sauce is low-carb or keto-friendly.
How to Make Your Homemade Version Better than the Original
For truly amazing, out of this world bang bang sauce, I recommend making your own sweet chili sauce at home. It takes less than 15 minutes to prepare and it adds a fresher taste and bolder flavors.
To make your own sweet chili sauce, you can use my keto-friendly sweet chili sauce recipe. I love it because it uses a substitute for sugar, which means it’s refined sugar-free. I also use a gluten-free sauce thickener called Xanthan gum.
Storage
Whether you made too much sauce or just want to make it ahead of time, you can store my copycat bang bang sauce for up to 5 days in the refrigerator. Just make sure you use an airtight container.
