Skip takeout and make crispy and lemony Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings at home. This easy recipe starts with my oven fried wings and finishes with a quick three-ingredient wet lemon pepper sauce. Enjoy this with my blue cheese dressing and air fryer roasted broccoli to make a low-carb meal. You can also make these lemon pepper wings in the air fryer.

Why Make This
- Crispy and saucy: this recipe starts with my baked chicken wings, which gets the wings crisp enough to keep their crunch with sauce.
- Easy low-carb meal main: these are a no-fuss main dish. Simply crisp the wings in the oven or air fryer and toss them in the sauce before serving.
Ingredients Needed
Lemon Pepper Sauce
- Butter: since Lemon Pepper seasoning usually has salt, I’m using melted and unsalted butter
- Lemon Juice: You can use freshly-squeezed lemon juice or bottled lemon juice
- Lemon Pepper Seasoning: I’m using a California-style lemon pepper seasoning. It’s citrusy and peppery without as much salt as other styles. It also includes garlic and onion.
Oven Fried Wings
- Chicken Wings: I get these wings sectioned into drums and flats.
- Baking Powder: This helps to make the chicken wings crispy without requiring breading or flour.
- Black Pepper
- Smoked Paprika
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder

How to Make Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings
For the Oven Fried Wings:
- Mix the spices and baking powder in a small dish or ramekin. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture on the wings and toss the wings to coat
- Place wings on a parchment-paper lined baking sheet or a baking sheet with a cooling rack. Bake the wings until they’re crisp
For the Sauce:
- Add all ingredients to a microwave safe bowl. Mix with a fork.
- Toss the wings in the sauce and serve immediately

Top Tips & FAQs
- Use all of the baking powder spice mix: the key to getting crispy wings is to use all of the spice mixture. I toss my wings in it until the entire surface of the chicken is evenly coated.
- Save the salt: If you’ve made my oven fried wings or garlic parmesan wings, you might be wondering where is the salt. Since lemon pepper seasoning usually comes with salt, I do not add it to this recipe. This allows me to add as much lemon pepper seasoning to the wings as I wish.
- Add the sauce right before serving: to make sure the wings are crispy and saucy, add the lemon pepper sauce right before serving.
- Crisp the wings in the air fryer to save time: simply use my air fryer lemon pepper wings recipe.
There are some variations, but common ingredients include chicken wings, lemon juice, and lemon pepper seasoning.
These have a wet sauce. I prefer them to be wet because it helps the lemon pepper seasoning stick to the wings. But, you could also use lemon pepper as a finishing spice and simply sprinkle it on your crisped wings.
I prefer California-style lemon pepper seasoning since it has less salt than other styles that I’ve tried and more lemon flavor.
