Are Scallops Keto? (Carbs & Recipes)

Scallops, a shellfish, are popular restaurant delicacies like shrimp. They are rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals like selenium. But are scallops keto? This guide lists the number of carbs in scallop dishes, how different cooking methods impact the carbs, and shares a few keto scallop recipes like my seared scallops and cauliflower risotto to enjoy.

Are Scallops Keto Friendly?

Are scallops keto-friendly? The answers are Yes and No, depending on your cooking method and how much you eat.

Nutritional facts about these shellfish indicate that they are generally low in carbs with high protein content. However, scallops still have a relatively higher carb content than other shellfish.

So, are scallops keto-approved? It depends on cooking methods, amounts, and your overall diet plan. You should know that scallops are low in fat. So, when making them, some people decide to compliment them with a higher-fat keto side dish.

Carbs in Scallops

How many net carbs are in scallops?

One cup (144g) of raw scallops contains 4.1g of total carbs and 0g of dietary fiber. The difference (4.1-0.0) is 4.1g of net carbs.

On the other hand, 100g of steamed or boiled scallops has 6.3g of total carbs, 0g of dietary fiber, and 6.3g of net carbs.

How many carbs are in a pound of scallops? 

A pound (453g) of raw scallops contains about 12.9g of total carbs, 0g of dietary fiber, and 12.9g of net carbs. 

How many carbs are in pan-seared scallops? 

One serving (100g) of pan-seared scallops contains 10g of total carbs, 1g of dietary fiber, and 9g of net carbs. 

How many carbs are in fried scallops?

One serving (17g) of fried scallops has 3.4g of total carbs, 0.2g of fiber, and 2.2g of net carbs.

How much protein is in a fried scallop?

Two large scallops (34g) of fried scallops contain 6g of proteins.

Two large scallops (31g) of breaded scallops contain 67 calories.

Conclusion

Are scallops keto? Keto isn’t a specific food. It really depends on what keeps an individual in ketosis. Scallops are relatively higher in carbs compared to other shellfish, but they are still overall low in carbs.
