Air Fryer Breakfast Sausage Patties [+Video]

Why Make These

  • No fuss: Whether you make homemade breakfast sausage patties or pick up your favorite brand from the grocery store, all you need to do is just add the sausage patties in an even layer to your air fryer tray and cook. You don’t even need extra oil.
  • Use as part of meal prep: use these as a zero-carb, high-protein add-on for a great breakfast, lunch, or dinner
  • Maximize use of your air fryer: now that you have an air fryer, you should use it. This easy recipe is a fun way to branch off from air fryer wings and cook something different.

Ingredients Needed

  • Sausage Patties: I purchased pork sausage patties from my local meat department as a 12oz package. There were 8 sausage patties and they arrived frozen. All of them fit in an even layer in my air fryer.
  • Cooking Spray: This is optional since most sausage mixtures (even turkey sausage) have enough fat added to them. I find that the extra spray does help with browning.

How to Make Sausage Patties in an Air Fryer

  1. Add the sausage patties to your air fryer basket in a single layer – this helps the hot air circulate while they are cooking
  2. Cook until the sausages reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees (if using a meat thermometer) and are brown enough for you. This works out to about 10-12 minutes.

Top Cooking Tips & FAQs

  • Cook time will vary: your sausages will be cooked long before they are browned. And, if you’re like me, then you probably like them to look a little charred on the outside. One benefit of the Foodi is that you can always add more time and pop open the lid to check on your food. I opted to cook them for 6 minutes per side.
  • Thaw your frozen sausage patties before cooking: sausage patties usually include ground meat like ground beef, ground turkey, or ground pork. So, it is essential to ensure that the meat cooks evenly and reaches an internal temperature of 160 degrees.
  • Line your air fryer for easy clean-up: add parchment paper or aluminum foil to your basket-style air fryer. It will collect the extra grease that collects while cooking.

How Long to Cook Sausage Patties in the Air Fryer?

You can view the post video to see how the sausages look at 6, 7, and 8 minutes per side. But, here are some helpful tips.

For fresh patties: they were cooked in about 10 minutes (or 5 minutes per side), but you might choose to cook them more to get them browner.

For frozen sausage patties that come pre-cooked (brown and serve sausage patties): you can start by doing 2 minutes per side.

What type of sausage patties work best in the air fryer?

Any sausage patty can be air-fried. But, the time and temperature for this recipe are for raw sausage patties.

I saved time and used prepared patties from my local grocery store. But, this recipe also works for homemade sausage patty recipes like my homemade chicken breakfast sausage, which includes simple ingredients and a sugar-free substitute for maple syrup.

Can you cook frozen sausage patties in the air fryer?

Only if the sausage patties are pre-cooked. In this case, you are only using the air fryer to heat and brown the sausages. For best results, you should not cook raw, frozen sausage patties in the air fryer. You must thaw them out first.
