Why Roast Garlic Bulbs in the Air Fryer
- Less time compared to the traditional oven: whether you are roasting garlic or roasting broccoli, it is always quicker and easier to use an air fryer. It takes half the cook time and gives the same result.
- Takes garlic flavor of dishes to next level: roasted garlic bulbs is more fragrant and flavorful than regular garlic. So, when you substitute it in recipes, you add so much flavor.
- Simple ingredients: this recipe requires just three simple ingredients
Ingredients Needed
- Heads of Garlic (Whole Garlic Bulbs): I use between one and four depending on what I need.
- Sea Salt and Pepper: I’m using just a few dashes of each of these. However, you can omit both if you wish
- Olive oil: I’m using extra virgin olive oil, but you could also use other cooking fats like avocado oil, ghee or coconut oil.
You can get the full list of ingredient amounts and instructions from the full recipe card at the end of the post.
How to Make Air Fryer Roasted Garlic (4 Simple Steps)
- Cut the garlic: use a sharp knife to cut enough off the top of the garlic bulb to expose the tops of the garlic cloves
- Add to tin foil & season: add your whole head of garlic to the center of a piece of aluminum foil and season them with the olive oil, salt and pepper
- Seal your entire bulb in the sheet of foil tightly. The goal is to make a bit of a foil packet
- Air Fry: add the aluminum foil packets to your Ninja Foodi air fryer basket in a single layer and air fry them for 15 – 20 minutes, or until the bulbs of garlic are golden brown.
Top Cooking Tips & FAQs
- Use extra time for more garlic bulbs: the cooking time varies based on how many garlic bulbs you use as well as the size of your garlic bulbs. I tend to use 15-16 minutes for one bulb and 18-20 for 3-4 garlic bulbs.
- Swap roasted garlic for any recipe requiring minced garlic, fresh garlic or garlic cloves
- Allow the packet to cool: the packet will be hot so it’s important to allow it to cool. I personally find it cool to the touch after 5 minutes, but some might want to have it come close to room temperature.
- Add additional fresh herbs: give your roasted garlic additional flavor by adding fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary and sage to the foil packet.
Storage
If you have leftover roasted garlic cloves, you might be wondering what to do with it. There are a few different ways to store it:
- Refrigerate it: I tend to take out the individual garlic cloves and store them in an airtight container for 3-4 days
- Freeze it: add the in whole garlic cloves to an ice cube tray or small freezer bag, freeze them and take them out as needed for future use.
