As a new mom, easy meals are what I can manage. That’s why this 15-minute Lemon Garlic Shrimp Foil Packet is the perfect light & easy dish. It has less than 10 ingredients and can be made on the grill or in the oven. I use Reynolds Wrap® Heavy Duty Foil because it is durable and thick and makes prepping, grilling, and cleanup easy, so I can spend more time with my family.
I’m excited to partner with Reynolds Wrap® for this post. All opinions are my own. Thank you in advance for supporting the brands that keep this content free to you.
Why Make This
- Just a few ingredients: this recipe has less than 10 ingredients (not including salt and pepper) and makes a meal.
- Easy prep, grilling & clean-up: Reynolds Wrap® Heavy Duty Foil is durable and thick, which is perfect for cooking heavier foods and foil packet meals since you don’t have to worry about breaking or tearing. In this recipe, I simply center the shrimp, asparagus and lemon garlic butter sauce in a 16-inch piece of foil, seal it, and grill. When I’m done, I just toss the foil.
- Quick: This dish requires just 15 minutes of cooking time in the oven or on the grill.
- Fits a range of ways of eating: whether you’re looking for a meal light on calories or something that’s low-carb, keto-friendly, Whole30 or paleo, this meal has you covered.
Ingredients Needed
These Lemon Garlic Shrimp Foil Packets just need a few ingredients.
- Reynolds Wrap® Heavy Duty Foil is high-quality and safe to use for cooking, making it my go-to in the kitchen and on the grill.
- Shrimp – I’m using jumbo shrimp for this dish. I recommend getting shrimp sized as “16-20”, “12-18” or “13-15” shrimp per pound.
- Asparagus: I chose this vegetable because it cooks quickly.
- Lemon Juice: I’ve made this dish with freshly squeezed lemon juice or 100% bottled lemon juice.
- Garlic: I love garlic so I opted for 8 cloves. But, you can add more (or less) if you like. I don’t recommend using less than 4 cloves though.
- Herbs & Spices: I included a few pantry staples in the Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp sauce. They include sea salt, black pepper, Old Bay, and red pepper flakes. For added freshness, I also used a few sprigs of fresh parsley.
How to Make Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp Packets
The best way to learn how to make this meal is to watch the video tutorial, which you can find in the recipe card and in the blog post.
Generally, though, there are just a few simple steps:
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (425 degrees)
- Tear three pieces of Reynolds Wrap® Heavy Duty Foil: 16-18 inch pieces are enough for this meal
- Add the shrimp and trimmed asparagus to the center of the foil packets: divide the shrimp and asparagus evenly
- Make the Lemon Garlic Butter sauce: I soften my butter in the microwave for 15-20 seconds so that it is mixable, but not bubbly hot. I mix all of the spices and herbs in the butter then divide the sauce evenly between the three packets.
- Seal the foil packets: bring up the long sides of the foil, so the ends meet over the food. Double fold the ends, leaving room for the heat to circulate inside. Double fold the two short ends of the packet
- Grill the packet: I use a long spatula to pick up the packet.
Top Cooking FAQs & Tips
- Let it rest: the foil packets cook the food by creating a flavorful steam. I find that my jumbo shrimp is just about done cooking when I remove it from the oven or grill. So, letting it rest for 1-2 minutes without opening the packet is just enough to cook the shrimp just right without overcooking them. Make sure to use caution when opening the hot packets.
- Add salt to taste: the recipe uses butter and Old Bay seasoning. You can add more Old Bay at the end and use unsalted butter to ensure that you can salt this dish to taste.
Can you prepare this in the oven?
You can make these in the oven or on your grill. For the oven, simply preheat it to 425 degrees.
You can cook the packets, just like you would on the grill for 15 minutes.
What other vegetables can you pair with this dish?
I chose to use asparagus with the Lemon Garlic shrimp because it cooks quickly, making it ideal for cooking in a foil packet with shrimp. Other quick cooking vegetables include: zucchini, blanched broccoli or green beans, and squash.

Salina Corona says
This was absolutely delicious and simple! I didn’t add in any salt because the old bay seasoning had some as well as the butter we used and it came out wonderful! We had it with white rice on the side and it was just perfection. Planning on adding this recipe on for a our regular meal plan. Thanks for sharing!
