Make tender BBQ Chicken Quarters in the crockpot using 3 main ingredients with this easy recipe. Perfect when you want bbq chicken flavors, but don’t want to start up a grill. Enjoy these with keto side dishes for bbq or any of these more traditional bbq chicken sides.

  • Easy: These bbq chicken quarters use only 3 ingredients and are easy to prep and cook; they require minimal attention while in the crockpot. Simply dump, go, and come back to a delicious main dish.
  • BBQ flavors without the grill: This bbq crockpot chicken leg quarters recipe will give you barbecue chicken flavors without starting the grill. 

Ingredients Needed

Here is what you need to know to make this recipe successfully. You can

  • Chicken Quarters: I use raw chicken leg quarters from the grocery store. This piece contains both the chicken thigh and the chicken drumstick.
  • Bbq seasoning: I’m using my homemade bbq seasoning recipe. In it, you’ll find common pantry spices like garlic powder, cayenne pepper, brown sugar substitute, thyme and more.
  • BBQ Sauce: I prefer a hickory or Kansas-city style barbecue sauce on all of my bbq dishes. To keep things low carb, use my keto bbq sauce recipe. Or, you can pick up your favorite bbq sauce from the grocery store.
Ingredients for BBQ Chicken Quarters: Raw chicken leg quarters in one bowl, BBQ seasoning in another, and a bowl of BBQ sauce, set up for a flavorful and easy slow-cooking preparation.

How To Make Bbq Chicken Quarters In The Crockpot

  1. Add the chicken quarters to the crockpot skin side up. Sprinkle with the bbq seasoning and use tongs to mix to coat.
  2. Add ⅓ cup bbq sauce and toss the chicken to coat.
  3. Cook on high for 3 hours. Remove the chicken from the crockpot and add to a foil-lined broiler-safe baking sheet. Brush with ⅓ cup of the bbq sauce.
  4. Broil on high for 3-5 minutes to char the chicken legs and crisp the skin. Brush with more sauce before serving.

  • You can substitute any chicken leg part for the chicken leg quarters. For example, this recipe also works with my crockpot bbq chicken legs and crockpot bbq chicken thighs.
  • The meat releases a lot of juices as it cooks, so save most of the sauce to the end.
  • Broil the bbq chicken legs for 3-5 minutes before serving to char the meat and crisp the skin.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken quarters, raw (about 3 chicken leg quarters – these have the drumstick and thigh attached)
  • 3 tbsp BBQ Seasoning, click for the recipe
  • 1 cup BBQ Sauce, your favorite bbq sauce works – choose a low carb or keto option to keep carbs low

Instructions

  • Add the chicken leg quarters to the crockpot.
  • Sprinkle with the bbq seasoning and use tongs to mix to coat.
  • Add ⅓ cup bbq sauce and toss the chicken leg quarters to coat.
  • Cook on high for 3 hours.
  • Remove the chicken leg quarters from the crockpot and add to a foil-lined broiler-safe baking sheet (skin-side up). Brush with ⅓ cup BBQ sauce.
  • Broil for 3-5 minutes on high to char the chicken legs and crisp the skin. It’s ok to have some “burnt”/charred parts.
  • Brush with more sauce before serving.
