These frozen meatballs in the air fryer cook in 11 to 12 minutes at 400°F, straight from the freezer. No thawing needed. After air frying, toss them with warm marinara sauce, BBQ sauce, teriyaki sauce, or sweet chili sauce to turn a bag of frozen meatballs into a quick dinner, appetizer, or bowl.

This air fryer frozen meatballs recipe is one of my favorite ways to make a fast meal starter feel more complete. Below, I’m sharing easy sauce recipes, cook-time tips for different meatball sizes, and simple ways to serve them with air fryer spaghetti squash, roasted garlic cauliflower mash, or quick air fryer vegetables.

Why You’ll Love This Method

  • Cooks straight from frozen: Add the frozen meatballs to the air fryer basket and cook them without thawing. It’s a simple way to get something warm and saucy on the table when you did not plan ahead.
  • Ready fast: Precooked frozen meatballs heat through in about 11 to 12 minutes, so they work well for quick dinners, appetizers, bowls, or meal prep.
  • Easy to turn into a meal: Once the meatballs are hot, you can toss them with sauce and pair them with vegetables, pasta, spaghetti squash, rice, cauliflower rice, or a creamy side.
  • Works with different meatballs: Beef, turkey, chicken, pork, and Italian-style frozen meatballs all work. You may just need to adjust the cook time for mini or larger meatballs.

Ingredients Needed

Making frozen meatballs in the air fryer is super easy. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Frozen meatballs: I use precooked frozen meatballs and cook them straight from the freezer. Beef, turkey, chicken, pork, and Italian-style meatballs all work. Mini meatballs cook faster, while larger meatballs may need a few extra minutes.
  • Sauce: Marinara is my classic choice, but BBQ sauce, teriyaki sauce, sweet chili sauce, sweet and sour sauce, or Alfredo sauce also work depending on how you want to serve the meatballs.
  • Optional toppings: Parmesan cheese, parsley, basil, red pepper flakes, black pepper, green onions, or sesame seeds can help finish the dish.

Be sure to check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for step-by-step instructions and exact ingredient amounts.

How to Cook Frozen Meatballs in the Air Fryer

Add the Meatballs Straight from Frozen

Place the frozen meatballs in the air fryer basket in a single layer. They do not need to thaw first, which is what makes this recipe so useful for quick meals.

Air Fry Until Heated Through

Cook the meatballs at 400°F for 11 to 12 minutes. Shake or flip them halfway through so they heat evenly.

Sauce and Serve

Warm your sauce separately while the meatballs cook. Once the meatballs are done, toss them with the warm sauce and add toppings if you’d like.

Tips for the Best Air Fryer Frozen Meatballs

  • Use precooked frozen meatballs: This recipe is written for frozen meatballs that are already cooked. Raw frozen meatballs need more time.
  • Keep them in a single layer: The meatballs heat more evenly when they are not piled on top of each other.
  • Shake or flip halfway through: This helps the meatballs cook evenly and keeps one side from sitting against the basket the whole time.
  • Warm your sauce separately: The meatballs heat better without sauce in the air fryer, and the sauce stays smoother when it’s warmed on its own.
  • Adjust for size: Mini meatballs cook faster, while larger meatballs may need a few extra minutes.
  • Check the label if needed: If you want a lower-carb option, look for meatballs with 8g of carbs or less per serving. These tend to have more meat and less breading.

Cook Time by Meatball Size

  • Mini frozen meatballs: Start checking around 7 to 8 minutes.
  • Average frozen meatballs: Cook for 11 to 12 minutes at 400°F.
  • Large frozen meatballs: Add 2 to 4 minutes as needed.
  • Raw frozen meatballs: Cook longer than precooked frozen meatballs and use a meat thermometer to make sure the center reaches 165°F.

Sauce Recipes for Frozen Meatballs

Frozen meatballs are easiest to sauce after air frying. I like to warm the sauce separately, then toss the hot meatballs in the sauce right before serving.

  • Marinara sauce: The classic option for pasta, subs, spaghetti squash, or meatball bowls.
  • BBQ sauce: A sweet, smoky option for appetizer meatballs, bowls, or an easy main dish.
  • Teriyaki sauce: Great for rice bowls, veggie bowls, or appetizer-style meatballs with sesame seeds and green onions.
  • Sweet chili sauce: Use this when you want sticky, sweet, slightly spicy appetizer-style meatballs.
  • Sweet and sour sauce: A good choice for party meatballs, rice bowls, or a quick takeout-style dinner.
  • Alfredo sauce: A creamy option for pasta, spaghetti squash, or a simple meatball dinner with vegetables.

Ways to Serve Air Fryer Frozen Meatballs

  • With marinara: Toss the hot meatballs with marinara sauce and serve them over pasta, zucchini noodles, or air fryer spaghetti squash.
  • Over something creamy: Spoon sauced meatballs over roasted garlic cauliflower mash for a cozy dinner that feels more complete.
  • As a bowl: Serve the meatballs over rice or cauliflower rice pilaf with extra sauce and a quick vegetable.
  • With air fryer vegetables: Pair them with air fryer green beans, air fryer roasted broccoli, or air fryer eggplant when you want an easy side.
  • As an appetizer: Toss the meatballs with BBQ sauce, sweet chili sauce, sweet and sour sauce, or teriyaki sauce. Add toothpicks and finish with green onions, sesame seeds, parsley, or Parmesan depending on the sauce.

How to Store Air-Fried Meatballs

Store leftover air fryer meatballs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

To reheat, add them back to the air fryer for 3 to 5 minutes, or warm them in the microwave with a little extra sauce.

How long to cook frozen meatballs in an air fryer?

Precooked frozen meatballs cook in the air fryer in about 11 to 12 minutes at 400°F. Shake or flip them halfway through so they heat evenly. The cook time depends on the size of your meatballs and whether they are already cooked. Larger meatballs may need a few extra minutes. Raw frozen meatballs need more time and should be cooked until the center reaches 165°F.

Do you thaw frozen meatballs before air frying?

No. Cook the meatballs straight from frozen. That is what makes this method helpful when you need a quick meal starter or appetizer.

What temperature do you cook frozen meatballs in the air fryer?

I cook frozen meatballs at 400°F. This helps them heat through quickly and gives the outside a little color.

Can you put sauce on frozen meatballs before air frying?

I prefer adding sauce after air frying. The meatballs heat more evenly without sauce, and the sauce stays smoother.

How do I reheat frozen meatballs?

You can use the air fryer to reheat frozen meatballs. If they are already cooked and just need to be warmed, start checking around 3 to 5 minutes.

Is it better to fry or bake meatballs?

Frying meatballs usually requires more oil, and baking can take longer. Air frying is a good middle ground because it heats the meatballs quickly without extra oil.
