Keto Marinara Sauce [+VIDEO]

Make no sugar added Keto Marinara Sauce in 20 minutes at home with this easy 5-ingredient recipe. You can use it in any recipe that calls for marinara (like my shrimp marinara, crustless pizza casserole and keto meatballs). Or, you can enjoy it as a keto pasta sauce and dip. Perfect for those looking for a Whole30, paleo, low-carb, and keto-friendly tomato-based sauce.

Why Make Keto Marinara:

  • No added sugar: Believe it or not, many marinara and pasta sauces have added sugar. This one uses simple ingredients and skips the sugar.
  • Easy: Simply add the ingredients to a blender or food processor, pulse and simmer.
  • 5 ingredients: Enjoy marinara sauce without unnecessary fillers and ingredients.

Ingredients Needed

  • Roasted Diced Tomatoes: I’m using organic, canned diced tomatoes that I picked up from my local market. I like the added roasted flavor. While I didn’t test this recipe with regular canned, diced tomatoes, you can use those as well.
  • Air Fryer Roasted Garlic: I’m using this recipe to have a bold, caramelized garlic flavor. But, you can use an equal amount of regular garlic cloves instead.
  • Spices: Italian seasoning, black pepper & sea salt
  • Olive Oil: this gives the sauce some body and fat. You can also use avocado oil as a substitute.

How to Make Marinara Sauce

  1. Add the ingredients to a blender and pulse until the garlic is as chunky as you’d like (for me, this was 2-3 times in a high-speed blender)
  2. Cook on medium-heat until the sauce reduces and the olive oil and tomato liquid turn bright orange

Top Cooking Tips & FAQs

  • Pulse to blend in oil and for desired chunkiness: I wanted to keep some of the tomato and garlic chunks so I pulsed this just a few times. But, you could pulse it more if you wish. Besides maintaining the chunks, pulsing also helps to blend in the olive oil.
  • Cook on medium to medium-low heat: the sauce will splatter and pop if the heat is too high. So, if you find yourself dodging tomato sauce splatter, simply turn the heat down.

Best Tomatoes for Keto Marinara Sauce

To keep this simple, I’m using regular, roasted canned tomatoes from the market. They have less than 3 ingredients and are minimally processed.

Ways to Use this Sauce

You can use this keto marinara sauce in any recipe that calls for marinara sauce or as a keto-friendly replacement for pasta sauce or spaghetti sauce. Some ideas are:

  • Enjoy it as a dip for Keto Mozzarella Sticks or Garlic Parmesan Bread Bites
  • Add a protein (like my cast iron chicken breast, air fryer Italian sausage, and cast iron pan-seared shrimp) and use the sauce to top zoodles, spaghetti squash, or other low-carb noodles
  • Make crustless pizza casserole, keto lasagna, shrimp marinara or keto meatballs

Ingredients

  • 28 oz Diced Tomatoes, Fired Roasted
  • 1/4 cup Olive Oil
  • 8 cloves Air Fryer Roasted Garlic, click for recipe
  • 1 tsp Natural Ancient Sea Salt
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a blender. Pulse 2-3 times to incorporate.
  • Add the sauce to a pot on medium-low heat.
  • Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the tomato liquid and olive oil form orange patches on the surface of the sauce.
