I think that it’s fair to say that we all love dessert, but as someone who makes dessert, they are not always fun to make (oh the pots, mixing bowls and work!). This week, I got the chance to try out Nush Cakes, a line of keto-friendly & low-carb cakes. Since they are new, I’m using this post to review the flavors (there are 6 flavors, including Pineapple Mango and Banana Nut) and highlight some things you might consider if you plan on purchasing them. Overall, though, these cakes are low-calorie with low net carbs; super moist, and mostly true to flavor!

Low Calorie. Low Net Carbs
Even though I do not track macros (unless I’m stalled in weight loss), I try to keep a general mental count of my daily calories. Since all of the Nush cakes are between 160 and 180 calories and have less than 4g of net carbs, they allow me to have dessert with little impact on my daily calories or carbs.
Real Fruit. No Added Sugar
When I first saw Nush‘s packaging, one of the first things that I noticed was that there was sugar (the packaging tells you how many grams right at the top right corner). Even though I’m not usually one to go crazy if something has a 1 gram of sugar, I like to figure out where the sugar comes from. One thing that I was super excited about was that Nush‘s sugar comes from real fruit, no added sugar.
My top 3 are Banana Nut, Pineapple Mango & Cherry Almond
I had a hard time ranking these because there are a lot of really good flavors to choose from! Plus, my husband was taste-testing these with me and we didn’t always agree on the order. Here are my top 3 flavors.
Cherry Almond Cake: I topped this with sugar-free whipped cream and it reminded me of the cake version of Cherry Vanilla ice cream.
Pineapple Mango Cake: This reminded me of some of the tropical desserts that I eat while on vacation. The dominant flavor is pineapple, but the one my husband tried had a bite-sized chunk of mango.
Banana Nut Cake: It was so awesome to get a low-carb substitute to banana bread. It’s one of my favorite carb-filled breakfast options, but I’ve largely been avoiding it because I gained a lot of weight eating and making it in the past! This one is guilt-free.
The Blueberry Cake was packed with blueberries and true to the flavor, but this is generally not my favorite cake choice.
Carrot Spice & Peanut Butter are good, just not my personal faves!
Even though all of the flavors are good, there were two that were not my personal favorites: Peanut Butter Cake and Carrot Spice Cake. As I write this, I think my rating of these two has a lot to do with the following:
I really love all things Peanut Butter and to me, the Peanut Butter Cake has a mild Peanut Butter flavor. Mine tasted more like Fall with notes of cinnamon and other fall-like spices being the star.
I wanted Carrot Spice to taste just like my carrot cake. As I wrote that though, I realized that the comparison was not necessarily fair since my cake has about double the net carbs per serving and takes some work!
