Perfect Air Fryer Chicken Sausages

Air fryer sausages are a quick weeknight dinner or an easy party appetizer. Just like my homemade sausage patties, these chicken sausages are ready in under 15 minutes and super juicy. You can use this method with any sausage brand you’d like.

Similar to my sausage links, Italian sausages, and Kielbasa recipes, I’ll show you how to air fry chicken sausages that are extra juicy and extra flavorful, with crisp skin in 15 minutes or less. Today’s chicken sausages are versatile, too. They make a wonderful alternative to classic breakfast sausages, or I’ll serve them for a high-protein, lean dinner or light party snack.

Why Cook Chicken Sausage in the Air Fryer

  • Convenient. Cooking chicken sausage in the air fryer is a great way to save time and energy on a busy weeknight.
  • Juicy and crisp. The high heat crisps the skins and makes chicken sausages super juicy. All you need is a little olive oil spray.
  • Easy meals. Serve this chicken sausage air fryer recipe with a low-carb or keto side dish like air fryer green beans for a tasty and low-carb meal.

What You’ll Need

You really only need one ingredient: Chicken sausages! Scroll to the recipe card for the complete recipe with exact amounts.

  • Chicken sausage: I use Aidells artichoke and garlic chicken sausage. You can use your favorite brand and flavor of chicken sausages. Other good options are Trader Joe’s chicken andouille, Applegate, Bilinski’s, Premio, and Boar’s Head.
  • Cooking spray: I use olive oil or avocado oil. A little oil helps the outside of the sausage crisp and brown.

How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Sausage

Follow these steps to air fry chicken sausages the easy way.

Prep the Sausages

Arrange the chicken sausages inside the air fryer in a single layer so that the hot air can circulate.

Spray the sausages lightly with oil to help with browning.

Cook, Flip, and Serve

Next, air fry the chicken sausages at 400ºF for 6 minutes.

Flip the sausages and spray the tops with more oil. Continue cooking for 5-6 minutes, until done.

How Do I Know When Chicken Sausage Is Done?

The sausage is cooked when the internal temperature reaches 165ºF. An instant-read thermometer is especially helpful when cooking thicker sausages or raw sausages containing ground chicken meat.

Tips for Juicy Air Fryer Sausages

  • Cooking times will vary. The exact cook time depends on the type of sausage you’re using, its thickness, and whether it’s fresh or frozen.
  • Use refrigerated sausages. I have not tested this recipe with frozen sausage or raw chicken sausage yet. So, keep that in mind when choosing which sausage to use. I recommend the partially-cooked chicken sausage from the refrigerated section.
  • Adjust the crispiness. I prefer crispy air fryer chicken sausage with a little char. If you don’t want to char your sausage skin or if you’re using sausages without casings, check for doneness after 8-10 minutes instead.
  • Grill them. Use the air fryer grill with the same instructions for a more grilled take.
  • Line the air fryer basket. Add aluminum foil to the bottom of the air fryer basket. This is the best way to enjoy tasty sausages without the extra mess!

What to Serve With Air Fryer Chicken Sausage

Pair these sausages with easy side dishes like air fryer green beans, cauliflower rice pilaf, or any of my air fryer vegetable recipes. They’re also great served between buns like hot dogs, topped with ketchup or saurkraut. These are some of my other favorite sides to serve with chicken sausage:

  • Mashed Cauliflower
  • Crockpot Cabbage
  • Coleslaw
  • Cornbread
  • Sautéed Spinach

For an easy appetizer, serve these sliced with cocktail skewers and spicy mayo, bang bang sauce, or Chick-fil-A sauce for dipping.

How long do chicken sausages take in an air fryer?

Cooking chicken sausage in an air fryer takes 10-15 minutes, depending on the type of sausages and how brown or crispy you like them. I cook my air fryer chicken sausages for about 12 minutes.

What temperature should chicken sausage be cooked to?

Air fry chicken sausages until the internal temperature hits 165ºF on a meat thermometer.

Can you put foil in the air fryer?

Yes. It’s safe to put a foil in the air fryer, plus it helps manage the mess.

Storage

  • Refrigerate. You can store leftover chicken sausages in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
  • Reheat. Reheat your air fryer chicken sausage in the air fryer again or in the microwave.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Chicken Sausage, I used Aidells garlic and artichoke chicken sausage, but any other flavor works, this was 4 links
  • Avocado Oil Spray, olive oil spray or avocado oil spray

Instructions

  • Add the chicken sausage to your air fryer basket.
  • Spray them with oil.
  • Air fry the chicken sausage and 400 degrees for 6 minutes.
  • Flip the chicken sausage and spray the tops with oil again. Continue cooking at 400 degrees for 5-6 additional minutes.
