Enjoy barbecue chicken wings any time of the year with this easy CrockPot BBQ chicken wings recipe. One of the easiest recipes, it includes just three ingredients and simple steps. I use my homemade keto brown sugar bbq dry rub and keto bbq sauce to keep carbs low. But, you can use any bbq seasoning blend and your favorite bbq sauce from the grocery store. Enjoy these as the perfect game day appetizer with my homemade blue cheese dressing. You can also pair this with my pressure cooker collard greens and keto cornbread for your next family dinner.
Why Make These?
- Easy Weeknight Meal: These 3-ingredient slow cooker bbq chicken wings will give you bbq chicken flavors without requiring a grill. Once you add the three ingredients to the cooking pot, you can walk away for a few hours and finish other projects while these cook.
- Keto/Low-carb option: If you’re on a low-carb or keto diet, my keto bbq sauce and keto brown sugar bbq dry rub will save you the extra carbs in regular bbq sauces and rubs.
- Free up oven space: if you’re hosting an event and need your oven space to cook other delicious party food, this slow cooker recipe and my air fryer bbq chicken wings, allow you to cook your food in a gadget to save space.
Ingredients Needed
- Chicken wings: I’m using fresh chicken wings that I cut into drums and flats. You can also use thawed party wings or drummettes, which, to me, is the meatiest wing section.
- My DIY bbq seasoning: This is the same seasoning I use on my Crockpot BBQ chicken thighs, air fryer ribs, and baked bbq chicken wings.
- BBQ Sauce: This recipe works best with Hickory or Kansas City-style bbq sauce. You can use my keto bbq sauce or another option like Sweet Baby Ray (if you’re not focused on added sugar).
How To Make BBQ Chicken Wings in The Crockpot
Follow these 4 steps to make easy crockpot bbq chicken wings:
- Add the fresh chicken wings to the crockpot. Sprinkle them with the bbq seasoning and use tongs to mix to coat.
- Add ⅓ cup of bbq sauce and toss the wings to coat—cook on high for 2 hours.
- Remove the wings from the crockpot (with tongs or a slotted spoon) and add them in a single layer to an aluminum foil-lined broiler-safe baking sheet. Brush wings with ⅓ cup of barbecue sauce.
- Broil on high for 2-3 minutes to char the wings and crisp the skin. Brush with more sauce before serving.
Recipe Tips & FAQs
- Use my keto bbq sauce and bbq dry rub for low-carb or keto variations.
- Broil the BBQ crockpot chicken wings as a final step to crisp and get a tiny bit of char on the skin. I use a baking sheet or pan, but you can also use a wire rack.
- Swap the bbq sauce for an infused twist: You can use the sauce in my bbq Hennessy wings for a richer flavor.
- Cook on high for 2-3 hours or the lowest setting for 3-4 hours. My personal preference is to cook on high for 2 hours, but you have about an hour “grace period” if you forget or need to leave them in the slow cooker for a little bit longer.
- Skip the cooking liquid: though it might be tempting to add things like chicken broth, slow cooker chicken wings produce their own juice. The combination of the chicken juices and the the steam from slow cooking, keep the wings tender.
- Swap the chicken piece: you can make a lot of bbq chicken in your crockpot pot. Other recipes on the site include, crockpot bbq chicken thighs and crockpot bbq chicken legs.
My crockpot bbq chicken wings use 3 main ingredients. The process basically involves coating the wings with a seasoning & dry rub, and bbq sauce, then cooking for 2 hours before broiling to crisp the skin.
If you haven’t tried these oven-baked BBQ chicken wings, you should. I dry brine the chicken wings for at least 4 hours using my homemade dry rub. The actual baking takes 20 minutes per side and an extra 5-10 minutes to char the sauce.
