An ice-cold glass of lemonade is the perfect thirst quencher on a hot summer day. But, most lemonade is full of sugar, so I’m sharing this Easy Sugar-free Keto Lemonade recipe to help you enjoy the refreshing tart flavor of traditional lemonade with none of the added sugar and carbs.
Ingredients in Sugar-free Lemonade
You only need a few ingredients to make this light and refreshing drink. The main ingredients are water, lemon juice, and a sugar substitute. In this recipe, I use powdered monk fruit erythritol because it blends well. But, you could use other sugar substitutes if you prefer.
How to Make Sugar-free Lemonade
Making keto lemonade at home is simple and easy. First, heat up a cup of water in the microwave using a microwave-safe bowl. Add the sweetener and whisk to combine. The warmed water helps to dissolve the sweetener and eliminates the need for things like keto-friendly simple syrup.
Next, pour cool water into a large pitcher. Add the sweet mixture, lemon juice, ice, and lemon slices. Stir the lemonade and serve.
Best Sugar Substitutes & Keto Sweeteners
Lemonade usually has a lot of sugar so the main challenge to making it sugar-free is finding the right sugar substitute.
When selecting sugar substitutes for lemonade, I like to use powdered versions. They tend to mix in and blend better than other types of sweeteners. But, if you don’t have powdered, the granular ones will work too.
Just be sure that your sweetener is a 1:1 substitute for regular sugar like the options below:
Lemon Juice Options
When making lemonade at home, you can choose either bottled lemon juice or fresh squeezed. Fresh squeezed often has a slightly better flavor, but the trade-off is having to juice the lemons yourself. If you decide you want to juice fresh lemons, a citrus press makes this so much easier.
Sugar-free Lemonade Variations
You can make other varieties of sugar-free lemonade at home too. All you need is a few extra ingredients.
Add Muddled Mint
One of my favorite variations is to add a minty twist to my lemonade. To do this, use a muddler to break up and crush some fresh mint leaves. Add the mint leaves to the pitcher and stir it well.
Make Half Lemonade & Half Brewed Tea
Another favorite of mine is an Arnie Palmer or half-lemonade/half-iced tea. For a great recipe for this, try my Blueberry Iced Tea Lemonade. The combo of blueberry and lemons go well together. In fact, one of my most popular desserts is this keto lemon cheesecake with blueberry sauce.
Use Frozen Berries in Place of Some Ice
If you like fruity lemonade, use a cup of frozen berries in place of some of the ice in this recipe. As the berries melt, they will release a bit of their sweet flavor.
