Top Cooking Tips & FAQs
- Marinate the chicken wings for at least 4 hours: to get the best results and the most flavor, you should allow your wings to marinate as long as possible. I’ve allowed my chicken to sit in the chicken wings marinade for 1-2 days with great success. Remember to discard any leftover marinade.
- Works for store-bought marinated wings too: if you buy your chicken wings with a marinade already on them, you can still use this recipe. Simply, jump to step #5 in the recipe.
- How to cut chicken wings: if you have whole wings, but don’t want to use them as is, break them down. Use a sharp knife to cut the wings into a drum, flat, and wing tip. You can discard the wing tips.
More Chicken Wing Marinade Ideas
- Korean BBQ Marinade: swap the ribs in my keto Korean bbq ribs for chicken wings for an Asian-inspired dish. This easy recipe includes things like sesame oil, fresh ginger, and coconut aminos (or soy sauce)
- Buffalo Wing Sauce: bottled buffalo wing sauce makes an easy marinade that requires no effort! It already includes things like white vinegar, cayenne pepper, hot sauce, avocado oil (or canola oil, depending on the brand), which add flavor to your wings.
Cook Marinated Chicken Wings on the Grill
If you’d like to try these on the grill, you can: set the grill to 400F, toss the wings in the marinade once more to ensure that they have enough olive oil to keep them from sticking, and cook them for 12-15 minutes on each side. Be careful not to burn them!
Making Wings in the Oven
After marinating, add the wings to a baking sheet with parchment paper or wire rack.
Cook in a preheated oven at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees (if using a meat thermometer).
Storage & Leftovers
If you have leftover air fryer chicken wings, a great way to store them is in an airtight container for next time. You can also wrap them up tight in aluminum foil for up to 5 days.
You do not have to marinate chicken wings before air frying them. In fact, there are so many ways to make chicken wings in the air fryer across the site. But, you can add a marinade like the one included to add a different flavor to your chicken.
Yes. This recipe is for cooking raw marinated chicken wings.
I would only put sauce on wings in the air fryer at the very end because most sauces will burn if they are left on for the entire cook time. You can put saucy wings in an air fryer to reheat them without issues.
This depends on the size of your wings and whether or not you are making air fryer frozen wings.
