Why Make Old Bay Chicken Wings in an Air Fryer
- Simple spices & ingredients: Old Bay is a staple in most households. This recipe uses it and a few others to get fried chicken flavors when you don’t have a lot of spices
- Fried chicken crunch & flavor without deep-frying: this Air Fryer Old Bay Chicken Wings recipe turns out super crispy without breading, flour or deep-frying.
Ingredients Needed
- Chicken Wings: I prefer chicken wings cut into parts (flat and drum). But, you can use whole chicken wings too!
- Old Bay Seasoning: this offers so much flavor without requiring a lot of spices.
- Garlic Powder
- Dried Parsley
- Baking Powder
- Olive oil: I always use a little bit of oil when making wings in the air fryer. Besides, olive oil, you can use any of these oils for air frying.
How to Make Air Fryer Old Bay Chicken Wings
- Mix the old bay, garlic powder, dried parsley and baking powder in a small dish or ramekin.
- Sprinkle the seasoning mixture on the wings and toss to coat
- Place the wings in a flat layer in the air fryer cooking basket. Drizzle olive oil on the chicken wings.
- Use the Air Crisp setting on 400 degrees for 12-14 minutes per side
Top Cooking Tips & FAQs
- Premix the spices: taking the time to mix the spices before adding them to the chicken wings helps the spices spread more evenly.
- Coat the wings evenly: getting the wings evenly coated with the spice mix and using most of the spice mix helps them to get crispy
- Preheat your air fryer if required: my air fryer doesn’t require preheating. But, if yours has a setting for preheating or requires it, then preheat your air fryer without food for up to five minutes before making these Old Bay Wings.
The cook time for air fryer chicken wings depends on whether the wings are thawed or frozen and your desired level of crispness. You can start to check for doneness at 20 minutes.
This depends on how crisp you’d like your chicken wings. This recipe calls for you to cook thawed chicken wings for 24-28 minutes.
Yes you can make frozen chicken wings in an air fryer. However, I personally prefer them with sauce. They also don’t get very crisp (more like baked chicken).
