White hot chocolate is one of my favorite alternatives to traditional hot cocoa. Unfortunately, its rich, yet mild milky goodness comes with a sugary price. This quick, sugar-free and keto-friendly version is a delicious low-carb copycat of the Starbucks drink.

Why Make This
If you’re a fan of Starbucks White Hot Chocolate, then you know it’s filling, rich, and creamy.
What you might not know is that the Starbucks version has 55 grams of sugar in a single 16 ounce drink!
If you’re hoping to cut refined sugar or simply think 55g of sugar is insane, then this version is a fantastic option.
It uses a sugar-free white chocolate that has no added sugar and 1g of net carbs per serving.
Ingredients Needed
- Sugar-free White Chocolate: I’m using the baking chips, but you could also use the squares or peppermint white chocolate varieties.
- Vanilla Almond Milk: This helps to keep the calories low in the overall drink. When I use the vanilla version, I tend to skip the vanilla extract.
- Keto Sweetener: I’ve tried this drink with regular granular or powdered Monk Fruit Erythritol. But, I’ve also used Choczero’s Vanilla Syrup to taste.
- Heavy Cream: this adds a richness to the drink. If you want a bulletproof option, you can add Unflavored MCT Oil instead.
How to Make This
Add almond milk, keto sweetener, and sugar-free white chocolate chips to a microwave-safe mug (photo 1).
Heat for 90 seconds. Carefully, take the mug out of the microwave and add in the heavy cream (photo 2).
Use a milk frother or hand blender to mix it all together (photos 3-4).
Add whipped cream on top if you wish.
Top Cooking Tips & FAQs
- Peppermint Version: Use the Peppermint White Hot Chocolate Chips to make a peppermint white hot chocolate drink. You might also add in 1/4 tsp of peppermint extract for a minty flavor like I did in my keto peppermint mocha.
- Pumpkin Spice It Up: for fall, you could add pumpkin spice to this drink and enjoy it as an alternative to pumpkin spice lattes.
- White Hot Chocolate Mocha: add in some instant coffee for a white chocolate mocha kick. I use the recommendation on the instant coffee packaging for how much to use per cup of liquid.
This version has 3g net carbs, which is more than 50g less than the Starbucks version.
