If you enjoyed my Old Bay chicken wings, then you’re going to love this Old Bay Shrimp. It’s full of your favorite Old Bay flavors and uses just a few basic ingredients. In this post, I’ll share how to make fully-flavored shrimp in Old Bay butter sauce in under 20 minutes. Plus, I’ll give you tips to make the shrimp from frozen and to make shrimp in your air fryer. You can make this a low-carb meal by pairing it with my air fryer green beans, air fryer spaghetti squash, or cauliflower rice pilaf.

Why Make This?

  • Quick and Easy: This Old Bay shrimp recipe takes less than 20 minutes and requires basic cooking skills. After you make the Old Bay Garlic Butter, you just add the shrimp and cook them through.
  • Flavor-packed: While you can certainly just sprinkle a little Old Bay on your shrimp, that doesn’t compare to my easy Old Bay Garlic Butter sauce. With shallots, lemon, and concentrated chicken broth, the shrimp gets cooked to perfection in a pan full of flavor.

Ingredients Needed

  • Shrimp: I use raw, peeled, and deveined with tail on.
  • Butter: I use salted butter, but you can always use unsalted butter and add salt to taste at the end.
  • Shallots: These are slightly sweet when compared to regular yellow onions, but you can substitute sweet onions or red onions if you don’t have shallots on hand or want to choose the best onions for keto.
  • Garlic: I’ve tried this with a few options – minced garlic (fresh or in a jar). You can also make the Old Bay Garlic Butter sauce using air fryer roasted garlic.
  • Lemons: fresh squeezed lemon juice or lemon juice in a bottle works for this Old Bay Shrimp recipe
  • Chicken bouillon paste: this is more concentrated than regular broth and adds flavor without adding too much liquid
  • Water: you can add water to thin the butter out if you wish.
  • Sweetener: I enjoy a little sweetness in my seafood butter, but this is optional
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Old Bay
  • Smoked Paprika: adds a smokey flavor to the dish. I have not tried this with regular paprika because it does not taste the same as smoked paprika.

Recipe Tips & FAQs

  • You can make the shrimp from frozen by adding the Old Bay butter and frozen shrimp to your air fryer just as I did in Air Fryer Cajun Shrimp. It takes about 10 minutes. Be sure to toss the shrimp after the first 5 minutes.
  • You can also bake the shrimp in the oven as I did with my lemon butter garlic sauce and cajun seasoning. Simply preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Once, preheated, add the Old Bay garlic butter and shrimp to a baking dish and cook.
  • Use air fryer roasted garlic in place of regular minced garlic for a richer garlic flavor.
How do I cook Old Bay shrimp?

My Old Bay shrimp recipe is a simple 4-step process that involves melting butter in a skillet and adding the ingredients in 3 stages.

What exactly is in Old Bay?

Old Bay contains various herbs and spices. It has paprika, celery salt, mustard, bay leaf, nutmeg, and other natural ingredients.

Should you cook shrimp fast or slow?

It’s okay to cook shrimp slowly on low heat, but you’ll achieve better results if you saute it fast on high heat.
