These Air Fryer Frozen Brussels Sprouts are an easy way to turn a freezer bag of vegetables into a simple side with tender centers and browned edges. I cook them straight from frozen with oil, salt, and pepper, then finish them with something bright, buttery, cheesy, or savory when I want more flavor.

Frozen Brussels sprouts are one of those budget-friendly vegetables I like keeping on hand because they last longer than fresh and do not need much prep. Serve them with freezer-friendly air fryer recipes like Air Fryer Frozen Wings, Air Fryer Frozen Salmon, or Frozen Meatballs in the Air Fryer. For more frozen vegetable sides, try my Air Fryer Frozen Broccoli or Air Fryer Frozen Green Beans. If you have fresh sprouts instead, use my Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts recipe for the best texture and cook time.

Why You’ll Love This Air Fryer Frozen Brussels Sprouts Recipe

  • Budget-friendly: Frozen Brussels sprouts are usually less expensive than fresh, and they are easy to keep in the freezer for a quick side.
  • Simple ingredients: The base recipe only needs frozen Brussels sprouts, oil, salt, and pepper.
  • Better than boiling: I like the air fryer here because it gives frozen Brussels sprouts more color while keeping the centers tender.
  • Easy to finish your way: Add lemon juice, parmesan, balsamic glaze, Garlic Herb Butter, or your favorite seasoning blend after cooking.

Ingredients Needed

  • Frozen Brussels sprouts: Use packaged frozen Brussels sprouts from the freezer section. Keep them frozen until you are ready to cook.
  • Avocado oil: I like avocado oil for air frying because it works well with high heat. Olive oil also works.
  • Sea salt: Fine sea salt spreads evenly over the sprouts.
  • Black pepper

How to Cook Frozen Brussels Sprouts in the Air Fryer

Coat the Brussels Sprouts

Add the frozen Brussels sprouts to a bowl with oil, salt, and pepper. Toss until the sprouts are lightly coated. The oil helps the seasoning stick and gives the outside a better chance to brown.

Air Fry and Toss

Place the Brussels sprouts in the air fryer basket in an even layer. Air fry at 400 degrees, tossing partway through so more than one side gets browned. They are done when the centers are tender and the outsides have some color.

Finish Before Serving

Taste the sprouts while they are hot and add any final seasoning you need. Frozen vegetables often need a little finishing flavor, so this is where lemon juice, parmesan, balsamic glaze, or melted Garlic Herb Butter can make them taste more complete.

step by step for how to make Air Fryer Frozen Brussel Sprouts

How Long to Cook Frozen Brussels Sprouts in the Air Fryer

Frozen Brussels sprouts usually take about 13 to 17 minutes at 400 degrees. I start checking around 13 minutes, then add more time if the centers need to soften or I want more browning.

The cook time depends on the size of your Brussels sprouts and your air fryer. Smaller sprouts cook faster. Larger sprouts may need a few more minutes.

Do Frozen Brussels Sprouts Get Crispy in the Air Fryer?

Frozen Brussels sprouts can brown in the air fryer, but they usually do not get as crisp as fresh Brussels sprouts. Since they have more moisture, the centers turn tender while the outside gets some color.

SAVE THIS RECIPE

I'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

For the best texture, cook them from frozen, avoid crowding the basket, and stop once the sprouts are tender with browned edges. Cooking them longer will not always make them crispier. Sometimes it just makes the centers softer. If you want crispier edges or you’re starting with fresh sprouts, use my Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts recipe instead.

How to Keep Frozen Brussels Sprouts From Getting Mushy

  • Cook them from frozen: Thawing first adds moisture and makes it harder for the outside to brown.
  • Use a hot air fryer: I cook these at 400 degrees so the outside can brown while the centers cook through.
  • Give them space: A packed basket traps steam. Use an even layer when possible.
  • Toss during cooking: Tossing helps the sprouts brown on more sides. I do not always do this when I’m keeping things simple, but it gives a more even result.
  • Stop when they are tender: Frozen Brussels sprouts have a softer center than fresh ones. Extra cook time can push them from tender to mushy.

How to Make Frozen Brussels Sprouts Taste Better

Salt and pepper work for a simple side, but Brussels sprouts can handle bigger flavors. Add any of these after cooking so the flavor stays fresh and noticeable.

  • Garlic herb butter: Melt a little Garlic Herb Butter over the hot Brussels sprouts for a buttery, savory finish.
  • Lemon pepper: Use Lemon Pepper Seasoning and add a squeeze of fresh lemon before serving.
  • Ranch seasoning: Sprinkle on Ranch Seasoning for a savory, herby flavor that works well with chicken, salmon, and steak.
  • Cajun seasoning: Use Cajun Seasoning when you want more warmth and a little heat.
  • Steak seasoning: Use Steak Seasoning when serving these with steak bites, burgers, or roasted meats.
  • Parmesan: Sprinkle grated parmesan over the hot Brussels sprouts so it sticks to the outside.
  • Balsamic glaze: Drizzle a little over the top right before serving for a sweet, tangy finish.

Are Frozen Brussels Sprouts Bitter?

Frozen Brussels sprouts are often blanched before freezing, which can soften their flavor. I do not usually find them as bitter as some fresh Brussels sprouts, but the taste can vary by brand and how long they are cooked.

If they taste too bitter, add something bright, salty, buttery, or a little sweet. Lemon juice, parmesan, garlic herb butter, or balsamic glaze can help balance the flavor.

What to Serve With Air Fryer Frozen Brussels Sprouts

These Brussels sprouts work best with mains that can handle a savory, browned vegetable side. Serve them with Garlic Butter Steak Bites, Air Fryer Salmon, or Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken Thighs when you want a simple dinner with a vegetable that has more bite than steamed greens.

They also fit well with freezer-friendly air fryer meals. Pair them with Air Fryer Frozen Salmon, Air Fryer Frozen Wings, or Frozen Meatballs in the Air Fryer when you want to build dinner mostly from freezer staples.

For more frozen vegetable sides, try Air Fryer Frozen Broccoli or Air Fryer Frozen Green Beans. If you are starting with fresh sprouts, use my Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts recipe instead.

How to Store Leftovers

Store leftover air fryer frozen Brussels sprouts in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

To reheat, warm them in the air fryer or microwave until heated through. They will be softer after storing, so I like using leftovers in bowls or serving them with another easy meal.

FAQs

Can you put frozen Brussels sprouts in the air fryer?

Yes. You can cook frozen Brussels sprouts in the air fryer straight from the freezer. Toss them with oil and seasoning, then air fry until browned and tender.

Should I thaw frozen Brussels sprouts before air frying?

No. Frozen Brussels sprouts cook best when they go into the air fryer frozen. Thawing them first can make them too soft.

How long do frozen Brussels sprouts take in the air fryer?

Frozen Brussels sprouts usually take about 13 to 17 minutes at 400 degrees. Start checking around 13 minutes and add more time as needed.

Why are my frozen Brussels sprouts mushy?

They may be overcooked, thawed first, or packed too tightly in the air fryer basket. Cook them from frozen, leave room for air to circulate, and stop once the centers are tender.
