Ingredients Needed
You don’t need much for this lemon garlic butter shrimp recipe. Here’s what you’ll need to gather:
- Shrimp: I use raw jumbo shrimp. They are 16-20 or 13-15 per lb and tail-on. You can keep the tail on, but ensure that they are deveined and peeled.
- Cajun seasoning: I use my homemade seasoning (which includes black pepper, garlic powder, and more) since I have it on hand, but you can also use another seafood seasoning like Old Bay.
- Lemon garlic butter sauce: this easy, rich sauce (which includes fresh garlic) comes together in a saucepan in less than 5 minutes with simple ingredients. I love this melted butter sauce on everything from seafood to chicken and other meats.
- Optional: Parsley flakes as a garnish.

- Pour the lemon garlic butter sauce over the shrimp.
- Bake the raw shrimp uncovered in your preheated oven. Then, turn the broiler on low and broil to cook the shrimp through and give it some color.
Top Tips & FAQs
- Look at the shrimp’s color and shape to not overcook: Shrimp doesn’t take long to cook. Check to see if your lemon butter shrimp is cooked by ensuring that the shrimp has an opaque bright orange color. The juicy shrimp will also have an open “C” shape instead of being tightly curled.
- Broil on low for color: Since shrimp cooks quickly, the broiler is a helpful tool for giving it a browned color without overcooking it. Be sure to use low and check the color and shape of your shrimp to not overcook it.
- Optional: If you’re craving even more lemon flavor, feel free to cut a few slices of lemon to squeeze some fresh lemon juice on top of the shrimp before eating. You could also add some fresh lemon zest or even lemon pepper to your dish based on your personal preference.
- Optional: For extra heat, try adding a little red pepper flakes at the end.
