One of my most popular recipes is my Surf and Turf. It features filet mignon, shrimp scampi and cauliflower risotto. Even though that dish is super delicious, I decided to skip the cast iron skillets in favor of my air fryer. This Air Fryer Surf & Turf features my air fryer steak and Cajun shrimp. You can make it in two stages in a regular air fryer or use a dual zone air fryer to finish this dish at the same time.
Why Make This
- Quick & easy: skip all of the pots and pans to make surf and turf in your air fryer. The shrimp even cooks from frozen
- Use a regular or dual zone air fryer to make this dish in as little as 15 minutes.
Ingredients Needed
Air Fryer Cajun Shrimp
- Shrimp: I’m using frozen, raw, peeled and de-veined shrimp. You do not need to thaw them before cooking.
- Cajun seasoning: this is a homemade spice blend that I make every few weeks and store in a spice jar
- Garlic Butter: this is also homemade, but it takes 5-minutes and goes in lots of recipes like my garlic butter chicken thighs and garlic butter shrimp
- Avocado Oil: I’m using avocado oil, but you could also use any of these air fryer oils
Air Fryer Steak
- Steak: Any 1-inch thick boneless ribeye, sirloin or new york strip steak will work. I sit the steak at room temp for about 30 min before cooking
- Steak Seasoning: This will work with any steak seasoning.
- Garlic butter: I’m using this as a compound butter for topping the finished steak
- Avocado Oil
How to Make Air Fryer Surf & Turf
For the Shrimp
- Add the frozen shrimp to the bottom of the cooking pot (no air fryer basket insert needed) with the seasoning and garlic butter.
- Air Fry to cook the shrimp through.
For the Steak
- Coat both sides of the steak with oil and steak seasoning
- Air fry the steak to your desired doneness
Top Tips & FAQs
- Save time by using a dual zone air fryer: complete the shrimp on one side and the steak on the other side
- Sit the steak out before cooking: this allows the meat to come close to room temperature, which helps with even browning and cooking
- Fresh shrimp cooks in half the time: if you already thawed your shrimp, you should start checking it for doneness at the 5 minute mark. Depending on the size, it should take 5-7 minutes.
Any of these side dishes for steak go well with surf and turf. Some of my personal favorites are mushroom cauliflower rice risotto and air fryer asparagus.
