These air fryer green beans are crisp around the edges, tender with a little bite, and full of garlic and herb flavor. They cook quickly with just a handful of ingredients, so you can turn fresh green beans into an easy vegetable side without boiling or blanching them first.

Serve these crispy green beans with Air Fryer Pork Chops, Air Fryer Salmon, or Air Fryer Chicken Legs. If you only have frozen beans, use my Air Fryer Frozen Green Beans recipe instead. If canned green beans are what you have on hand, try my Canned Green Beans recipe.
Why Make Green Beans in the Air Fryer?
- Quick and easy: Fresh green beans cook in about 12 minutes with very little prep.
- Crisp-tender texture: The air fryer gives the beans browned edges while keeping some bite instead of making them soft.
- No blanching needed: Trim, season, and air fry the fresh green beans without boiling them first.

Ingredients Needed
Check the recipe card below for the exact amounts.
- Fresh green beans: I buy trimmed green beans when I want to save time. Otherwise, trim the stem ends from about 1 pound of fresh beans before cooking.
- Cooking fat: I prefer butter for the flavor. Olive oil, avocado oil, or ghee also work. For even more flavor, you can use my Cajun Garlic Butter.
- Garlic and herb seasoning: Use a salt-free garlic and herb blend, such as Bragg or Mrs. Dash Garlic & Herb. These blends typically include garlic, onion, herbs, and black pepper, so you get plenty of flavor without needing several separate seasonings.
- Sea salt: Add this separately since the seasoning blend is salt-free. If your seasoning already contains salt, start with less and adjust to taste.

How to Make Green Beans in the Air Fryer
Prep and season the green beans
Trim the ends from the fresh green beans, then toss them with the cooking fat, garlic and herb seasoning, and salt until evenly coated.
Arrange them in the air fryer
Add the green beans to the air fryer basket in a single layer. Giving them room allows the hot air to circulate around the beans as they cook.
Air fry until crisp-tender
Air fry for about 12 minutes, tossing the green beans with tongs after 6 minutes. They should be tender with some bite and have lightly browned, crisp edges when they’re ready.

How Long to Air Fry Fresh Green Beans
For this recipe, fresh green beans take about 12 minutes in the air fryer, with a toss halfway through.
SAVE THIS RECIPE
The exact cooking time can vary based on the thickness of the beans and your air fryer. Start checking them after 6 minutes, then continue cooking in 2-minute increments until they’re as crisp or tender as you like.
Thin green beans, such as haricots verts, may finish sooner than thicker beans.
Tips for the Best Air Fryer Green Beans
- Give the beans room: Arrange them in a single layer rather than packing the basket tightly so the hot air can circulate.
- Adjust for thickness: Thin green beans cook more quickly than thick ones, so start checking early if you’re using smaller beans.
- Preheating is optional: You don’t need to preheat for this recipe unless your air fryer model requires it.
- Use the texture as your guide: The beans should be tender but still have some bite, with browned or crisp areas on the outside.
Easy Seasoning Variations
The garlic and herb blend keeps these green beans simple enough to serve with almost anything. I use a salt-free blend like Bragg or Mrs. Dash Garlic & Herb, but you can also switch up the flavor with Ranch Seasoning, Cajun Seasoning, Lemon Pepper Seasoning, or Taco Seasoning.
You can also keep them simple with salt and pepper and finish them with a squeeze of fresh lemon.
Since the garlic and herb blend I use is salt-free, I use about 1 tablespoon per pound of vegetables and add salt separately. If you’re using a seasoning blend that already contains salt, start with about 1 teaspoon per pound and add more to taste.
Can You Air Fry Frozen Green Beans?
Yes, but frozen green beans don’t turn out as crisp as fresh ones. They release more moisture and have a softer texture that is closer to sautéed green beans. If you’re starting with frozen beans, follow my Air Fryer Frozen Green Beans recipe instead. That recipe is designed specifically for the way frozen green beans cook in the air fryer.
What to Serve With Air Fryer Green Beans
These green beans are an easy vegetable side for chicken, pork, steak, or seafood. Try them with Air Fryer Pork Chops, Air Fryer Chicken Wings, Crispy Baked Chicken Wings, Pan Seared Halibut, or Air Fryer Salmon.
Other Ways to Cook Green Beans
If you want a different texture or cooking method, try Roasted Green Beans for an oven-baked version, Sautéed Green Beans for a quick skillet side, or Green Beans with Bacon for a savory one-pan option.
For softer Southern-style green beans, make Instant Pot Southern Green Beans or Crockpot Fresh Green Beans with Bacon. For something heartier, use fresh green beans in my Green Bean Casserole.
Storage and Reheating
- Store: Keep leftover air fryer green beans in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- Reheat: Reheat them briefly in the air fryer until warmed through. They will soften somewhat during storage, so avoid overheating them if you want to retain some bite.

Recipe Notes
- Seasoning: I use about 1 tablespoon of a salt-free garlic and herb blend per 12 oz. of green beans. If your seasoning contains salt, start with about 1 teaspoon per pound and add more to taste.
- Cooking time: Thinner green beans may cook faster. Start checking at 6 minutes, then cook in 2-minute increments until tender with browned, crisp edges.
- For the best texture: Give the green beans room in the air fryer basket and toss them halfway through cooking.
- Frozen green beans: If you’re starting with frozen beans, use my Air Fryer Frozen Green Beans recipe instead. Frozen green beans cook differently and won’t get as crisp as fresh ones.
